South Holland
South Holland, a village in Cook County, northeastern Illinois, USA, is a Chicago suburb situated along the Little Calumet River, approximately 30 miles (50 km) south of downtown. Established in 1847 by Dutch farmers under the name De Laage Prairie ("The Low Prairie"), it underwent a renaming to South Holland in 1870. The village, part of Thornton Township, recorded a population of 21,465 in the 2020 census. In terms of income, the median household income in South Holland was $66,859, with a median family income of $79,688. Males had a median income of $41,500, while females had a median income of $35,913. The per capita income for the village was $28,649. Approximately 9.3% of families and 11.2% of the population fell below the poverty line, including 19.2% of individuals under age 18 and 11.0% of those aged 65 or over.
