Richton Park, situated predominantly as a residential village on the southern edge of Cook County, is intersected by the Sauk Trail—a contemporary roadway tracing the historical Native American transportation route from Rock Island on the Mississippi River, traversing Illinois and Indiana, to Detroit. As a southern suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, USA, Richton Park recorded a population of 12,775 in the 2020 census. The village derived its name from a Richton in Vermont, the hometown of one of its initial settlers.
