West Ridge
West Ridge is one of the 77 community areas in Chicago. Situated on the far North Side of the city, it is a middle-class neighborhood encompassing the 50th ward and the 40th ward. It has a historical alias, known as North Town, and is often referred to as West Rogers Park. The neighborhood is bounded by Howard Street to the north, Ridge Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Ravenswood Avenue to the east, Bryn Mawr Avenue and Peterson Avenue to the south, and Kedzie Avenue and the North Shore channel of the Chicago River to the west. In the past, it was connected with the neighboring Rogers Park but separated to establish its own village in 1890 due to a dispute concerning park districts, famously known as the Cabbage War. West Ridge officially became part of Chicago on April 4, 1893, following the annexation of Rogers Park.
