West Lawn
West Lawn, located east of Midway Airport, exudes a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that almost feels suburban in nature. However, it's not your typical residential neighborhood. This unique community on the west side of Chicago is infused with rich culture, stemming from its strong heritage and thriving community bonds. One of Westlawn's standout features is its status as home to the United States' only Lithuanian museum. This museum was established due to the neighborhood's predominantly Lithuanian population, which is the largest outside of Lithuania itself. In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the Latin-American community in Westlawn, evident in the growing number of Mexican restaurants, taquerias, and cantinas that have sprung up throughout the neighborhood. These dining establishments, typically independently owned and operated, have become defining elements of the Westlawn neighborhood today. However, it's worth noting that the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture is considered by many to be the area's most precious treasure.
